Preparing Your Holiday Cottage: A Peak District Owner's Checklist

Getting Your Peak District Holiday Let Guest-Ready

Owning a holiday cottage in the Peak District is a wonderful thing — but keeping it spotless and welcoming for every guest takes real effort. Whether you're new to holiday letting or a seasoned pro, having a reliable system in place makes all the difference.

Here's our tried-and-tested checklist for preparing your cottage between guests, drawn from over 30 years of experience in housekeeping across Derbyshire.

The Changeover Clean Checklist

Kitchen

  • Deep clean all worktops, hob, and oven
  • Empty and wipe fridge and freezer
  • Run dishwasher on hot cycle and wipe interior
  • Check all crockery, cutlery, and glassware — replace any chipped items
  • Restock essentials: washing-up liquid, bin bags, tea towels

Bathrooms

  • Scrub and sanitise all surfaces, toilets, and shower screens
  • Replace towels with freshly laundered, professionally pressed sets
  • Restock toiletries: soap, shampoo, toilet rolls
  • Check grouting and sealant for mould

Bedrooms

  • Strip and remake all beds with crisp, clean linen
  • Vacuum mattresses and rotate if needed
  • Dust all surfaces, lampshades, and skirting boards
  • Check wardrobes and drawers are empty from previous guests

Living Areas

  • Vacuum and mop all floors
  • Dust all surfaces, ornaments, and picture frames
  • Clean windows inside and check for smears
  • Plump cushions and arrange throws neatly

Outside

  • Sweep patios and paths
  • Empty bins and recycling
  • Check garden furniture is clean and dry
  • Hot tub maintenance (if applicable)

Why Outsource Your Changeover Cleans?

Managing changeovers yourself — especially during busy summer weekends — can be exhausting. That's why many Peak District cottage owners trust us to handle everything:

  • Professional changeover cleans to the highest standard
  • Fresh linen delivery and collection (bed linen, towels, tea towels)
  • Welcome pack preparation with local treats
  • Property checks between guests
  • Gardening and hot tub maintenance

We work 364 days a year (closed Christmas Day only), so you're covered even on the busiest bank holiday weekends.

The Linen Advantage

One of the biggest upgrades you can make to your holiday let is switching to professionally laundered linen. Our commercial flatwork ironers give sheets and pillowcases that hotel-quality crispness that guests absolutely love — and it shows in your reviews.

We offer both linen hire (we supply and launder) and linen laundry (you supply, we launder) — whichever works best for your setup.
